WISCONSIN RAPIDS PUBLIC SCHOOLS: Volunteers are needed to provide child care while parents attend a “Parenting with Love and Logic” program on Tuesdays from now until February 21.  Sessions are from 9:15am – 11:00am and are held at McMillan Public Library.  There will be a background check performed on all volunteers.

RIVER CITIES COMMUNITY ACCESS: We are in need of volunteers to help record local basketball games, swim meets, gymnastics, choir and band concerts and anything else you would like to see on cable access. JEREMIAH’S CROSSING: LOVE HORSES? LOVE KIDS? Jeremiah’s Crossing may be the place for you. Jeremiah’s Crossing is a therapeutic horseback-riding ranch for children with special needs. Volunteers help make this opportunity available at no cost to families. We are currently accepting applications for Side Walkers and Horse Leaders! Side Walkers need to be comfortable walking alongside a horse, assisting children in their effort to stay in the saddle and follow instructions given by the instructor. Horse Leaders are responsible for taking care of the horse, grooming, tacking, leading and helping the horse help the children. The horses are well trained. The ranch staff will train you in handling techniques specific to our horses. Volunteers must be 15 years and older to be a Horse Leader and 14+ to be a Side Walker. Training will be provided for all volunteers. A background check will be requested.

THE FAMILY CENTER: Food pantry and donation recovery assistants are needed.  The Family Center has a large on-site food pantry and clothing area which needs to be maintained. The pantry and clothing room is available for our in-house clients as well as those who are past clients. Duties include: sorting and shelving clothing and pantry donations. Some light housekeeping.  This job is available during the work week (Monday – Friday 8 am till 4 pm). 1 to 3 hours at a time would be appreciated. Volunteer must be able to carry bags or boxes of groceries.  Volunteers are expected to attend quarterly meetings and/or trainings.

AGING AND DISABILITY RESOURCE CENTER: Drivers needed for medical appointments.  Drivers use their own vehicles to transport elderly and/or disabled adults to medical appointments within the state of Wisconsin or south Wood County. All passengers are residents of south Wood County. You choose your trips and availability. Reimbursement for mileage is according to the current IRS rate. Make a difference in your day and someone else’s. This is a great social opportunity.  Requirements: Wisconsin Drivers License, annual background and driving record, insurance, vehicle inspection. Annual trainings are available.

LITERACY COUNCIL OF WOOD COUNTY:  Computer tutors needed. We’re looking for patient adults willing to teach our computer basics program in venues within Wood County. We have both a lab, and a mobile training program. We’ll provide detailed training and equipment.  Volunteers for this role must be patient adults. A valid drivers’ license is helpful.

The webmaster is ultimately responsible for ensuring that the Web site is easy to navigate, and that it addresses the needs of Wisconsin Rapids Area Habitat for Humanity (WRAHFH) and the individuals that access the Web site for information.  That person will edit, update, and delete web page content to keep it current and relevant.

BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS:  January is National Mentoring Month!!! Now is an excellent time to consider becoming a mentor!  As a Big Brother or Big Sister, you are able to put a little magic in to a child’s life with something as simple as washing a car or flying a kite together. The list of activities can go on and on. In fact, almost anything you enjoy doing, some child would enjoy, also. The consistency of your friendship will be building blocks for a lifelong friendship.

Transportation: Applicant needs a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance.

Application and Background: An application will need to be completed and a background check will be done on all applicants to ensure the safety of the children in the program. We check 3 references (provided by applicant), insurance, police & sheriff records, and the sexual offender registry. Interview: We will also perform an interview and home visit.

ADAMS-FRIENDSHIP SPECIAL OLYMPICS: Volunteers are needed to help with their annual Basketball Tournament January 29, 2012.  Volunteers will help as a referee, scorekeeper, serve food, set up, clean up, etc.  A volunteer bowling coach is also needed to schedule and run practices and accompany athletes to tournaments.  No experience necessary; training provided.  Volunteers also must agree to a background check.
